The Added Importance of Voluntary Benefits In The New Year

December, 2020

The end of the year is a time when we typically reflect on our gratitude for the past 12 months and our hopes for the future as we prepare for a fresh start in the new year. Traditionally, many of us set resolutions for the coming year that we hope to achieve in our personal and work lives.

Last year, we listed a number of suggested new year's resolutions from such as dieting/eating healthier, exercising more, learning a new skill or hobby as well as some suggestions of our own. These included protecting yourself and your family against identity theft, filing your taxes early, and others that our voluntary benefit plans can help you achieve. Our voluntary benefits are designed to be affordable solutions that employers can offer their employees to help them in their everyday lives.

As employers adjust to the evolving employee benefits landscape, including the effects of the global pandemic, voluntary benefits such as the plans from Legal Club continue to take on more relevance.

According to a 2020 survey of 505 employers conducted by benefits consulting firm Mercer, 48 percent of employers have been monitoring the situation, in order to decide if they will adjust their employee benefits plans in 2021 with the most common changes companies are considering including  adding or expanding voluntary benefits (16.5 percent).

This is further supported by a 2019/2020 Global Benefits Attitudes Survey by HR consultancy Willis Towers Watson, based on responses from 8,000 U.S. workers polled at the end of last year, found that 37 percent of employees would rather receive more-substantial benefits than additional salary/wages or bonuses. 57 percent said their benefits package is more important to them than ever before, driven largely by their desire for greater security.

Following are the new year's resolutions supported by the voluntary benefits offered by Legal Club that we listed a year ago that remain just as relevant today as we prepare to ring in 2021.

Protect yourself and your family from identity theft. Making a resolution to educate yourself and take measures to use caution when providing personally identifying information is a good first step. Using a VPN to help protect the data you provide online is a great solution that  can be implemented by using an affordable Identity Theft Protection Plan from Legal Club. Legal Club's SurePath Identity Theft Protection Plan can help protect against identity theft occurring in the first place and provides full service restoration of an identity to it's pre-theft state and $1,000,000 identity theft insurance if a fraud does occur.

Prepare your tax return prior to the deadline rush. This is a worthy New Year’s resolution that's easy to do. You have to prepare your taxes anyway so why not make it a resolution in 2021 to start a little earlier? Instead of the last minute stress,  get it done and enjoy some peace of mind. Family Protection Plans from Legal Club provide free Federal and State Tax return preparation that can save you between $250 and $300!

Drive safely without texting. This resolution should be considered mandatory. Every one of us that gets behind the wheel should commit to being alert and driving safely. Should you end up getting a moving violation or experience a driving related legal matter, the Family Protection Plan from Legal Club has a wide range of convenient and cost saving benefits like free and discounted legal care, attorney referrals, traffic ticket defense, and more.

Good luck with whatever resolution(s) you do make and we wish you a happy and healthy new year.
